I am responding to the other post: “I know now what being the guy in the relationship means“.  That is “me being a female fix-it type”.

When I was in my twenties, I was dating a guy who was Mr. Fix-it.  One time my vacuum cleaner broke. I began to take it apart to try and fix it.

He asked if I wanted help and I said I was fine.

When I got the vacuum running again, he seemed bewildered.  He looked at me and said “what do you need me for?”

He had no idea why someone would want to be in a relationship with him, if they didn’t need him to fix things.

I still find that a lot of men get intimidated or competitive with me around fixing things.  Sometimes I think I ought to pretend like I don’t know how,  just to soothe their ego…
